Saturday, August 31 Thunderstorms in the Forecast mean a few Changes to Today's Musical Heritage Tour ScheduleDue to thunderstorms in the forecast, we've made some changes to today's event schedule. We want to keep everyone dry, so here's the plan...
We will have a very simple mural unveiling at noon before the rain comes without any music or ceremony. You're welcome to come see the new mural, visit the new Gallery on Main, and pick up your t shirt or copy of the Liner Notes magazine.
Then at 3:00 pm, we'll host the Mural Unveiling program with our young pickers and the Long Journey Home House Band at the Arts Education Center on College Street ("the old arts center"). The mural dedication will be immediately followed by Kenny Price and Jerry Moses performing the unique clawhammer banjo music of Clarence "Tom" Ashley (3:30 to 4:15) and then Jack Proffitt and Backroads Bluegrass will play some good ole mountain music (4:20-5:15). There will be no performance at the Clarence "Tom" Ashley homeplace today. We hope to see you later today! You may want to bring your lawn chair in case we run short on seating. Please help us spread the word.
Sunday, September 1 2 - 4:30pm *Sunday Singing at Heritage Hall Theatre Hear old-time gospel music performed by the Front Porch Pickers, the Price Family, the Potter Family, Narrow Road and others. In a typical year, You can hear clawhammer banjo played on the front porch of the Clarence "Tom" Ashley homeplace, Buskin' on Main Street with an outdoor film. A new mural is unveiled each year and the hills come alive with the sounds of Old Time and Bluegrass! BUT the last two years have been anything but typical. What do you do when life gives you lemons? Make good old fashioned lemonade, of course! Below, you'll find the segments that were produced in 2021.
Be sure to stop by and take your picture in I'll Fly Away on Main Street. Whether you grew up singing "I'll Fly Away" or you're singing it for the first time, we are glad you're part of the picture!
